PDX Wort Heater
Delivering Clear Benefits

The PDX Wort Heater brings a number of benefits to any brewhouse. The most significant of these are the large energy savings which can be realised. The PDX Wort Heater creates unique processing conditions which enhance the stripping of volatiles from the wort and therefore enables the brewer to significantly reduce the evaporation rate down to -1.5% whilst maintaining wort and final beer quality. During the very energy intensive wort boiling phase the PDX Wort Heater delivers reductions in energy consumption of more than of 70%. The use of direct steam injection allows the PDX Wort Heater to utilise more than 99% of the energy in the steam and transfer it directly to the wort. The PDX Wort Heater has the added benefit that it can be used to start heating the wort during the transfer process into the copper. The PDX Wort Heater has been seen to consistently deliver overall energy savings in the region of the 50% whilst maintaining the quality and flavour of some of Britain's best loved beer brands. And, of course as a direct result of these energy savings, the PDX Wort Heater directly reduces the carbon footprint of any brewhouse.

NO BURN ON

The patented unique design of the PDX Reactor ensures that there are no hot surfaces within the smooth bore pipe. The heat from the steam is gradually transferred to the wort resulting in no burn on within the heating system. This is advantageous to brewers for several reasons. Due to no fouling within the heating system, there is no loss of efficiency between brews. This enables the PDX Wort Heater to produce wort consistently to a high quality with no impact on the energy consumption over time. This significant reduction in fouling also enables brewers to plan their cleaning regime around when the copper requires cleaning rather than having to give primary consideration to the efficiency of the heating system. By reducing the frequency and level of cleaning required, the PDX Wort Heater enables production teams to reduce the costs of cleaning and the amount of effluent released into the environment.

SURPRISINGLY SMALL

The surprisingly small footprint of the PDX Wort Heater makes it an ideal candidate for retrofitting into any brewhouse, but particularly to those where space or access for large equipment is an issue. An additional benefit of this small footprint is that the PDX Wort Heater can be manufactured and built off site, requiring minimal time within the brewery for installation ensuring that there is little if any disruption to production.
